New York City: a Classic Christmas Destination
New York is my favorite place to return to. I find myself suddenly missing this incredible city every few years & immediately looking up flights. Last year, the urge hit me right before the holidays, and I decided to plan a Christmastime trip to Manhattan. It was one of the best little trips I’ve ever taken. A long weekend in the city was exactly enough time to soak up all the holiday cheer the city has to offer.
This trip was also quite special to me as it was one of my first trips post-pandemic. I got to see some of the things I had been reading about during the past years while I was stuck at home. For instance: I had read so much about Little Island before it was built up until its completion. After feeling so invested in the story of this little park, I was dying to see it. It did NOT disappoint. This place is magic, a perfectly designed park that frames the city behind it so well.
I think I have a new favorite park. There were so many amazing photo opportunities here!
Boy does this city know how to do Christmas! I was delighted by every twinkle light, ice skating rink, and Christmas tree that I came across. And the Christmas market at Bryant park was the perfect place to pick up some thoughtful gifts.
Other highlights of this solo city getaway were enjoying art at the MOMA, strolling through Riverside Park, sipping natural wine in the East Village, grabbing tacos at Chelsea Market, eating a bagel breakfast in Washington Square Park on a bench, and walking for miles and miles up and down the city. New York, you are magical always.
It’s been a while since I had spent an afternoon wandering around the Museum of Modern Art. This is one of my favorite things about solo travel: you can take your sweet time wandering through a museum without worrying about taking up someone else’s time. So I spent a few hours amongst this gorgeous artwork.
New York, you are such a magical city to wander around and photograph, especially during the holidays.
